Esri ArcGIS® Online gives access to CompassData Ground Control

Esri ArcGIS® Online is a terrific tool for mapping professionals to access basemaps that can improve their map visuals. CompassData’s Ground Control Point Archive, the world’s largest commercially available GCP data set, is available through ArcGIS Online.

To access the truncated file of archive ground control data through ArcGIS, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the ArcGIS home page: http://www.arcgis.com/home/
  2. Type in key words like GCP, ground control, control point, etc, into the search box in the upper right side of the webpage. It’s important that you also select “All Content” in the “Show” drop down menu above the search box.
  3. The CompassData archive layer will be at the top of your search results. You can then download the layer file into your Esri mapping program. We also provide contact information so you can order the complete deliverable Ground Control Point from us, in any of five different precision levels to ensure easy ingestion into your GIS program.

Spatial Information Solutions offering complimentary CompassData GCPs with purchase of mapping accuracy software

Starting this week, mapping software firm Spatial Information Solutions® (SIS) is offering complimentary ground control from CompassData® to purchasers of its QA/QC software products, Accuracy Analyst® or Topo Analyst®.

Created with photogrammetrists and other mapping professionals in mind, the software from SIS is designed to ensure data accuracy and quality in GIS digital maps. Ground Control Points (GCPs) are an integral part of ensuring mapping accuracy by verifying the specific location points on the surface of the earth. By pinpointing locations, data from satellite or aerial surveys can be orthorectified to a higher accuracy. SIS technology automates geodata accuracy and quality verification, verifies LiDAR and raster elevation data accuracy, and provides other QA/QC tools.

  1. If you are not familiar with Spatial Information Solutions, go to their website http://www.spatialis.com to check out their orthophoto verification tool Accuracy Analyst® 3.0, and their LiDAR elevation data tool Topo Analyst® (each at $1,900).
  2. Contact Leslie O'Hara at the SIS office at 662-323-0202 or email Leslie O'Hara at leslie@spatialis.com for scheduling a webinar to learn more. When you are ready to purchase Leslie will send you a quote with your coupon code for 10% off all SIS tools until year end 2011, and take your order.
  3. Once you've purchased from SIS, they will send license codes for your new software and send you detailed information on how you can obtain your CompassData ground control points (depending on precision level, a $900 – $1,500 value).

Data collection Prague

CompassData co-founder Maggie Howard collected ground control in Prague, in October.

Great to see so many at GEOINT 2011

It was great to see so many of our defense and government clients at GEOINT in October. CompassData formalized our relationship with Infoterra GmbH at this year's conference, signing a formal agreement authorizing us as the provider of Remotely Sensed Ground Control Points (RSGCP) obtained through the high-resolution radar satellite TerraSAR-X.

Check out our newsroom - you can download our news release and also see a video of GIS Cafe's interview with CEO Brant Howard!

Since last year's GEOINT, we've collected more than 800 new Ground Control Points in Europe alone. Our world-wide archive continues to increase, helping to ensure accuarge mapping solutions for all our clients.

Check out our more than 17,000 available Ground Control Points at the GCP Archive Store.
