Some applications of GIS technology, by just a few U.S. Government agencies:

  • Enterprise Geographic Information System - an enterprise GIS system for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by Esri.

  • TOXMAP - a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Superfund Program.

  • Mapping & Analysis for Public Safety (MAPS) - a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) program to promote research, evaluation, development, and dissemination of GIS technology for criminal justice research and practice.

  • Satellite Images of Mali Villages - A team of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) researchers used satellite images of two villages in Mali to help them decide where to place sand fly traps part of an effort to control the disease leishmaniasis.
