The Process:

First, click to download to your preferred mapping software application. Zoom around and see where CompassData has GCPs.

Click here to download an Esri Shape File
to load in your GIS!

When ordered, your deliverable file will be a .zip file containing the Esri Shape File elements ( .shp, .shx and .dbf files), as well as a projection file.

Once you have viewed the GCP Archive through your preferred application, contact us at solutions@compassdatainc.com or call us at 303-627-4058 to order your full set of deliverables, including:

  • Coordinate File containing Lat/Long Data, in either text or spreadsheet format
  • Project Report containing information on:
  • Equipment used in data collection
  • Procedures
  • Accuracy Report
  • Image Chip showing GCP collection location
  • Sketch diagram, hand-drawn by field data collector
  • Digital pictures of the GCP location, showing each cardinal direction

Deliverables can be provided in both soft copy (via our FTP site) and hard copy.

We can deliver in any datum or projection that the customer requires, including these formats:

  • Standard Delivery: WGS84 (G1150) (World Geographic System) Decimal Degree Latitude/Longitude, Height above Ellipsoid in meters
  • UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator)
  • Lat / Long, NAD 83 (North American Datum)

We can also accommodate special customer requests in datum format production.

Whether you are working with satellite, aerial or LiDAR imagery, GCPs ensure that your project contains "Ground Truth" – the data is tied to a specific, human-verified location on the planet earth.

Each of our more than 17,000 GCPs can be downloaded and is provided to the customer with all supporting metadata, imagery, and point sketches, accuracy reports and station diagrams.

Access to existing control with metadata provides a distinct advantage when planning an image collection project; overhead imagery can be planned to capture existing nearby control locations in lieu of sending out a survey crew to collect new points, usually with considerable savings in both cost and time.

Take a look at the archive locations through truncated examples, choose where in the world you want your GCPs to be from, and contact us to order the complete package of deliverables.
